This year is an election year for the Massachusetts Teachers Association, and there is a highly competitive race between three platforms. There have been a few opportunities to hear from the MTA President and Vice President candidates, but we have invited them to speak to UMass staff specifically and address higher education staff concerns. This forum will be for University Staff Association and Professional Staff Union members only.
The MTA leadership is elected by the largest democratic body in the state, MTA Annual Meeting, where locals send delegates to vote on this, the budget, and other MTA business items. As you know, USA concluded its elections for those delegates a few weeks ago and the results of that election can be found on our website. They, and you, need to be aware of how these potential leaders are planning to shape the MTA for the next few years.
If you are a dues-paying member, a calendar invite with the Zoom link and an email with the Question Form will be sent shortly. If you are a dues-paying member and did not receive these, contact the USA Office at usa@umass.edu. Please consider dropping in to hear their statements and take the opportunity to ask your questions on April 22 between 11:30am and 1pm. We will be utilizing the Zoom Question + Answer feature to organize this meeting, so there will be no chat function, but we will encourage people to ask their questions.
Proposed agenda:
11:30-11:40 Welcome attendees
11:40-11:55 Candidate statements from:
