During the 2024-2027 bargaining cycle, USA followed the example of the Belmont Education Association in democratizing our bargaining process by introducing “silent bargainers” at the bargaining table. Becoming a Silent Bargaining Representative (SBR) is your opportunity to make an impact on your future contract at one or more bargaining sessions.
The word “silent” in the name only means that your video and microphone are off if you are video conferenced in or that you are non-disruptive to the bargaining process if attending live. SBRs are encouraged to question, comment, learn and vote. There is always a live chat independent of the stream and plenty of discussion during caucuses (session breaks) with the seated bargaining team ensuring your voice is heard. Some of our SBRs even joined working groups to help research or write new proposals or counter proposals. If you are looking for a way to learn more about your contract and operations in general, this is a perfect way to do so!
While we are not currently bargaining for a contract, keep an eye on communications from the union closer to our 2027 bargaining cycle!

While our SBRs may have been silent at the table, they delivered a powerful message to management through their Zoom profile pictures!
