Monday, October 20th from 5:30-6:30 PM on Zoom. While Massachusetts has been taking action to reverse years of underfunding for public higher education, including the use of new revenue generated by the Fair Share Amendment, the Trump Administration is undermining progress by cutting and freezing vital federal funds that support research, student success, and other academic pursuits. Students, staff and faculty are all at risk. A strong public higher ed system is essential for achieving social and economic justice across the state as well as for powering our local economy. On October 20th, join MTA members and leaders in conversation with state representatives and senators to support:
- The DRIVE Act: Use up to $200 million of Fair Share Funds to fill federal cuts to public higher education, and another $200 million from other sources for public and private higher ed institutions
- The Bright Act: Make a significant investment in new, green facilities on public college and university campuses
- An Adjunct Bill of Rights: Pass legislation that increases pay and creates access to benefits for adjunct faculty
- Improved wages and working conditions across public higher ed: Act on the findings of the state’s Commission on Higher Education Quality and Affordability regarding low pay as a barrier to hiring and retaining staff and faculty https://www.mass.edu/strategic/cheqa.asp
